Seven Bridges wins Bio-IT World Best of Show award for Cancer Genomics Cloud

Groundbreaking Pilot Funded by National Cancer Institute Helps Researchers Worldwide Tap Into Large Genomic Datasets to Speed Cancer Research

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 8, 2016Seven Bridges, the biomedical data analysis company, today announced that it was honored with a Bio-IT World Best of Show award for the Cancer Genomics Cloud (CGC) it built as a part of the National Cancer Institute’s ongoing pilot program. The Best of Show awards program at the Bio-IT World Conference & Expo recognizes the top innovative product solutions for the life sciences industry on display at the conference, which took place April 5-7 in Boston.

Powered by Seven Bridges, the CGC is the first complete ecosystem to give cancer researchers immediate access to one of the world’s largest genomic datasets — The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) — and the computational resources to analyze it. The Seven Bridges CGC pilot went live in February of this year and today more than 400 participants are using the ecosystem to analyze TCGA data in conjunction with their own research.

“This was a record year for innovation within bio-IT,” said Allison Proffitt, Bio-IT World’s Editorial Director. “The Best of Show program honors the creativity and commitment that is pushing IT and the life sciences forward.”

The Best of Show program relies on a panel of expert judges from academia and industry who screen eligible new products and hear presentations on site. This year, a record-breaking 46 new products in IT and the life sciences were considered in four categories. Seven Bridges was named a winner for Informatics Tools & Data Analytics.

The 2016 Best of Show judging panel included Michael Barmada, University of Pittsburgh; Catherine Brownstein, Boston Children’s Hospital; Joe Cerro, BostonCIO; Chris Dwan, Broad Institute; Martin Gollery, Tahoe Informatics; Richard Holland, New Forest Ventures; Eleanor Howe, Broad Institute; Alan Louie, IDC; Aaron Krol, Bio-IT World; Phillips Kuhl, Cambridge Innovation Institute; Katya Mantrova, Independent Consultant; Jerry Schindler, Merck; Alex Sherman, Massachusetts General Hospital; and Proffitt.

“We are honored that Bio-IT World’s prestigious panel of judges selected the CGC for the Best in Show Award,” said James Sietstra, President of Seven Bridges. “We are so excited to help researchers around the world collaborate on their work, and learn from TCGA data. Initiatives like the CGC, Million Veterans Program and other large-scale genomic projects create exceptional opportunities to use technology to accelerate research and discovery in this area.”
