Effective representation of complex data in visual form is critical to scientific discovery and clinical decision-making. When multi-dimensional data is properly displayed as an explorable, interactive visual object it can lead to important insight into patterns that underlie the data.

Our team is developing the next generation of bioinformatics tools for use with the genomic sequences of millions of patients.  These tools will enable clinicians and basic scientists to study and understand the causes of human disease and advance cures.

As a member of our data Visualization team you will develop applications which will allow easier interaction and collaboration among scientists working on a wide range of projects and research topics, including rare genetic disorders and cancer.

An ideal candidate would:

  • Be proficient in JavaScript.
  • Be able to turn our data and analyses into accurate but visually striking interactive plots. that will enable and encourage basic scientists and clinicians to explore previously daunting data sets.
  • Be familiar with visualization tools in javascript (e.g. D3, WebGL, Three.js) and have the ability to produce interactive applications that display very large data sets responsively.
  • Have a strong passion for Information presentation problems and solutions.

Bioinformatics is a relatively new and rapidly growing interdisciplinary field of science that combines computer science, statistics, mathematics, genetics and engineering to analyze and interpret biological data. Job Description

The R&D engineer is expected to develop early prototypes of new bioinformatic data analysis tools.  Relative to other positions on the R&D team, there is a greater emphasis on developing novel algorithmic techniques to abstract meaning from biological data sets.  R&D engineers are expected to draw upon a range of computational techniques in order to extract accurate and meaningful “signal” from noisy biological data, and then implement those techniques in prototype or demonstration software products.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop new techniques for bioinformatic data analysis, with an emphasis on improved accuracy relative to existing methods
  • Implement novel bioinformatic analysis algorithms as software tools (e.g., with run-time parameters and/or other configurable options) that could be uploaded to the Seven Bridges Platform and run by another user
  • Test newly developed bioinformatics algorithms against existing techniques and methods, using a combination of real and simulated data, and refine the algorithms iteratively based upon test feedback
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and report progress on a regular basis
  • Disclose novel aspects of work to patent committee and assist in drafting patent documents when necessary

Qualifications and competencies

  • A degree in either an engineering field, mathematics, or the physical sciences.  Advanced PhD or Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience with various advanced concepts in data analysis, such as: statistical inference, machine learning, data visualization, numerical simulation, signal and image processing, Monte Carlo methods, etc.
  • Experience  with software development and working with a programming language, (ideally python, java, matlab, R or C++), although not necessarily in a commercial setting, and it needn’t be the main focus of prior work
  • Be able to learn new subjects quickly and thoroughly
  • Have the ability to work as a team member and independently

ABOUT THE SCIENTIFIC ENGAGEMENT TEAM:

The Scientific Engagement Team partners with customers to implement solutions, troubleshoot problems, and ultimately renew and grow our business with key accounts. You will work with customers to ensure that their scientific and technical needs are met, and you will consult with our Solutions Architecture Team and our Product Engineers on the design of custom bioinformatic analyses and new software features requested by customers.  As the main communicator with customers throughout their relationships with Seven Bridges, you will improve our product by bringing feedback to internal teams. You will also work with a wide range of organizations -- from individual research groups to departments at top universities, pharmaceutical companies, and large consortia.   The Scientific Engagement team is global, spanning our offices in Europe and the US, and reports to a Team Lead and ultimately to our Chief Product Officer.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Genomics Scientist in our Scientific Engagement Team, you will help scientists plan and execute their genomics projects: You understand the questions that shape the discipline, how scientists address those questions, and what features of the Seven Bridges software are important for those purposes.

You are people-oriented, you can think like a customer, and you eagerly work to resolve problems. Maintaining positive and productive relationships is key.  In this role you will meet with customers frequently and act as their chief advocate for on-demand issue resolution.  While you may do some hands-on analysis, your primary work will be project management and working with internal analysts and engineers to deliver solutions to customers.  Your frequent customer interactions will also allow you to contribute to the development of marketing and customer support materials, including product documentation.  

In a scientific capacity, you will lend your expertise to the development and writing of new scientific proposals, responses to RFIs, and grant applications. You will also contribute to preparation of scientific publications, conference presentations, and white-papers.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Seven Bridges is building the leading platform for analysis of genomic data in the cloud. We store and process population scale amounts of sensitive genetic information on behalf of our major enterprise clients, such as pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and research universities. Our clients’ trust is one of our most valuable assets, and regulatory compliance is a critical priority. In this role, you will establish a state-of-the-art information security compliance program that will provide our clients with the highest level of assurance that all information assets are safe with Seven Bridges.

 As the Director of Information Security, you will ensure that Seven Bridges attains and maintains compliance with applicable security frameworks: both regulatory frameworks such as FISMA and FedRAMP, and voluntary standards such as ISO 27001 and SSAE 16. You will work with our Information Security Team to develop and enforce policies, procedures, and technical controls and supervise the overall information security management system. You will also coordinate required internal audits of security compliance, prepare Seven Bridges for external audits, and act as the face of the company’s security and compliance efforts to clients and the broader community.

Lead regulatory compliance and standards certification-and-accreditation efforts for information security.

Ensure that our security and compliance efforts stay at the forefront of industry developments

Manage the operation of the company’s information security management system.

Qualifications

 
Bachelor’s degree in information assurance, security, management information systems, risk management, or equivalent work experience is acceptable. Advance degrees a plus.

Past senior management experience leading  teams of security professionals is required.

8+ years of related security risk assessment, vulnerability management, or audit work experience is required.

Experience guiding an organization through external audits of information security and risk management is required.

Strong analytical and product management skills are required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.

  • Prioritize conflicting needs; handle matters expeditiously and proactively; and follow through on projects to ensure completion, often with deadline pressures and/or several last-minute changes.

About you:

About the Job:

  • You will interact with diverse external stakeholders, from executive level to technical staff at organizations ranging from federal governments and large pharmaceutical companies to academic, nonprofit and biotech organizations.
  • You will define the priorities, guide decisions, and eliminate road blocks to enable the team to build the products to transform biomedical research.
  • You will research, understand, and prioritize the needs of our users -- and then teach them (as well as our internal teams) how to get the most from the features and products that you help build.
  • You will gather feedback from researchers using our products and incorporate it into the development roadmap to ensure continual improvement.
  • You will lead large, cross-team initiatives and ensure seamless communication throughout project life cycles.
  • You will deeply understand genomics and technology  -- you’ll stay on its leading edge by attending and presenting at conferences, reading avidly and interviewing scientists.

About You*:

  • You have demonstrated expertise in bioinformatics or genomics (typically a PhD or equivalent) and/or experience in a software development environment (as a product manager, software engineer or engineering manager).
  • You have an understanding of genomic data sets, public and private, how they are built, used, and maintained.
  • You understand ontologies, data structures, data harmonization and governance.
  • You have a familiarity with command-line interfaces and scripting languages.

Position:

We are seeking a Team Lead with a bioinformatics/genomics background.  Seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented leader who is motivated to improve the world with better information. This person, whose primary mission is to enable our customers to use the platform to best meet their goals,  will develop both successful internal training programs and external customer programs from concept through scale.  As a perfect fit for this role, you enjoy learning about products, becoming an expert user of them, and teaching other people how to use them.

Responsibilities:

Define, develop and implement a global customer education/training strategy that will accelerate and scale the learning and adoption of the Seven Bridges Platform, in line with Seven Bridges business plan.

Build and lead a high-performing team that is responsible for curriculum design, tailored training content creation, delivery, certification programs, educational events, learning tools and infrastructure.

Mentor employees to reach their full potential by focusing on and improving the team’s:

  • product knowledge

  • relationship management skills

Lead the creation of best-in-industry live and e-learning training sessions that maximize customer adoption, retention, success, and loyalty.

Evaluate the effectiveness of customer education initiatives in order to determine return on investment, build customer loyalty and shape future plans and priorities.

Manage multiple projects concurrently; and, monitor activity, progress and time related to project completion.

Identify, implement, and support the most appropriate technology and tools to enable to efficient consumption of all available self-help and training content.

Manage technical content design working with key members of the team and company to leverage knowledge and relevant project content.

Put in place meaningful key performance indicators and demonstrate improvement for customer knowledge.

Work together with the customer projects department to ensure all internal team members are aware of agreed priorities.

Desired Skills:

PhD or advanced degree in scientific/technical discipline preferred; B.S. degree required

5+ years experience implementing, driving, and evaluating company-wide knowledge programs

Strong knowledge management and people management experience, ideally in a scientific or technical environment

Bioinformatics/genomics experience required.  SaaS domain experience desired.
